The Canandaigua City Republicans are announcing their FULL slate of candidates for Fall 2019!

We are delighted to have such an experienced, diverse group with extensive community involvement. Six of our candidates are lifelong residents, several are third and fourth generation Canandaiguans!

All candidates are working towards a united goal:

o The City of Canandaigua, our residents and taxpayers come first!

o It is time to focus on what is best for Canandaigua and its residents.  Time to make the Residents and City the priority!


Bob Palumbo - Mayor:

Lifelong Canandaigua resident and local business owner. Bob is married with 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Bob currently serves on City Council as Ward 2 representative. A Very active volunteer in our community, Bob is a long time Rotarian and member of the Erina Hose holding many leadership positions in each organization as well as served on the Canandaigua Charter Review committee. Bob also serves on the Board of Directors at Clark Manor, chairing the buildings and Grounds committee.


Larry Aikens – Ward 1

Lifelong Canandaigua resident and Local business owner. Larry is a veteran of the US Army. Married with 4 children you can find Larry distributing his wonderful Rise and Shine Bread everywhere!


Nick Fabbio – Ward 2

Nick is a lifelong Ontario County resident spending the last 10 years in Canandaigua. Nick is the proud owner of local business Nick’s Chophouse and a gifted pianist. Nick volunteers for the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Embrace Your Sisters. You can often find Nick playing piano for several organizations.


George Smith – Ward 3

George, a lifelong Canandaigua Resident is a Career Firefighter and adjunct professor at MCC’s Fire Protection Technology Program. George is married and has 3 children. When not working or teaching George is a volunteer at Sonnenberg Gardens and the Erina Hose Company


Erika Schuppenhauer - Ward 4

A Lifelong resident of Canandaigua Erika is a local Attorney practicing with her father on South Main ST in downtown Canandaigua. She found her passion for public service while working for Randy Kuhl and Brian Kolb. In her free time, you can find Erika volunteering for several organizations and spending time with family and friends. Erika always has a lovely smile and nice word to greet you.


Sean Buck – At Large

Sean is proud to say he is a fourth generation Canandaiguan! Sean is local business owner and adjunct professor at FLCC. When Sean is not working he is volunteering at Sonnenberg Gardens and spear heading the annual Kershaw Klean up scheduled for Saturday Morning July 21st.


Bill Scharr – At Large

A lifelong Canandaigua resident and businessman, Bill is married and has a son. Bill enjoys spending time with family and friends and coaching and volunteering here in Canandaigua. 


Donna Bessler - At Large

Donna is the Executive Director of Care Net and co-founder of community homeless initiative NoWhere. 

Donna is the mother of 4 children. After losing one to suicide she has worked tirelessly as an advocate and now Field Ambassador for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. And if that isn’t enough, Donna is also hosts a weekly Teen Support Group and is a Member of the Diversity Inclusion Panel


Matt Martin – At Large

Matt is a 6-year Navy Veteran who spends a lot of time as a volunteer for the Veterans Treatment Corp, mentoring other veterans. Matt is a local business owner and former Councilperson At Large. You will always find Matt with his truck helping many local organizations. Matt has a lovely daughter named Gabby.


Rich Russell – City Supervisor Wards 2&3

Rich is an experienced Supervisor serving the City since 2010 effectively guiding several projects improving Ontario County while also serving as steward for the City of Canandaigua. An experienced local businessman and avid volunteer for multiple local organizations such Light Hill Comfort Care Home. Rich looks forward to continuing his work as your Ward 2&3 City Supervisor.

Donna Besler

 Executive Director for Care Net Pregnancy Center of Canandaigua, as well as the Co-founder of NoWhere, a community initiative for the homeless, founded in 2014.

Donna Besler is the loving mother of four: Luke 16; Grant 18; Brennan, forever 19; and Ashley, 33.

After losing her son, Brennan, to suicide, Donna has channeled her grief in reaching out to those endangered or affected by depression and loss.

She is a committed Advocate with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, offering Talk Saves Lives Presentations, tabling for outreach events such as the Out of the Darkness walks and meeting with our legislators in Albany and DC.

Donna is also the facilitator for the SOS (Survivors of Suicide Loss) support group that meets twice a month.

She also assists with a teen support group that is helping teens and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression and loss.

Donna is very active in our community.

Erika S. Schuppenhauer

Erika grew up in Canandaigua and is a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, Class of 2005. She then went on to attend Syracuse University, graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences and the world renowned Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs with a double degree Bachelor of Arts in both Political Science and Policy Studies, with a concentration in Society and the Legal System in 2009, with honors.  Erika completed Law School at SUNY Buffalo Law School, receiving her Juris Doctor in 2014 and has been admitted to practice since January of 2016.


In January 2016, she eagerly joined the family practice, and longtime Canandaigua small business, The Schuppenhauer Law Firm.  Erika recently bought her first home in Ward 4 of Canandaigua and is looking forward to making Canandaigua her forever home. 


In her free time, she enjoys renovating her home, spending time with family and friends, volunteering for local charitable organization, traveling and spending time on beautiful Canandaigua Lake.
